Summary: The role of Cryptography Engineer involves designing, implementing, and supporting monitoring solutions for HSMs (Hardware Security Modules) within a cybersecurity context. The position requires expertise in specific HSM types and collaboration across various teams to enhance cryptographic services. This is a hybrid role based in Sheffield or Leeds, focusing on improving the resilience of critical encryption infrastructure. The contract is for 6 months and is classified as inside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and support a new monitoring and alerting solution using Splunk
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for your specific HSM type (Thales Payshield, Entrust NShield, or Thales Luna)
  • Extract relevant data (via SNMP) and collaborate with teams across infrastructure, cyber and operations
  • Define detailed requirements, write design and test specifications, and contribute to project documentation
  • Help shape the roadmap for ongoing cryptographic service improvements
  • Raise potential issues early and bring fresh, innovative solutions

Key Skills:

  • Deep experience with your specialist HSM (Payshield, NShield or Luna)
  • Strong understanding of SNMP, Splunk, SSH, SSL, Confluence, Jira, ServiceNow and Github
  • Solid grasp of cryptography fundamentals, modules (e.g., TPMs), and IT infrastructure
  • Knowledge of industry standards: OWASP, ISO2700x, PCI DSS, GDPR, CIS, NIST
  • Experience working in regulated environments (finance/banking a plus)
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, teamwork, and documentation skills
  • Bonus: PKI, Encryption Key Management, Windows/Linux admin, relevant certifications (CISSP, CISA, CISM)

Location: Hybrid — Sheffield / Leeds, or nearshore from Poland

Contract: 6 months (Inside IR35) — Market Rates / Negotiable

  • NShield HSM Engineer
