Summary: The Consultant Geriatrician role involves providing expert geriatric care for older patients within a hospital setting, focusing on general and specialist medicine. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership, diagnosis, management, and treatment for patients with complex geriatric medicine needs.
- Act as an expert resource for medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals.
- Champion high-quality medicine for older people locally and regionally.
- Complement and develop existing services through specialist knowledge.
- Participate in on-call duties for General Internal Medicine.
- Engage in mentoring and support for junior staff and medical learners.
Key Skills:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Geriatrics and General Medicine.
- MRCP(UK) or equivalent training and experience.
- Wide experience in General Medicine and understanding of Clinical Governance.
- Experience in leading and motivating staff.
- Desirable: Post Graduate Degree (e.g., MSc, MD, PhD).
