Summary: The role of Maths Tutor at The Weir Link involves leading an after-school homework club for children aged 7-12, focusing on providing high-quality maths tutoring and support. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality maths tutoring to a small group of up to 8 children (aged 7–12), focusing on homework support and confidence-building.
  • Adapt support to suit varying levels of ability and curriculum needs.
  • Work collaboratively with another DBS-checked adult supervisor in the session.
  • Encourage a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Track attendance and contribute to the termly evaluation process.
  • Liaise with the Centre Director on student progress and session feedback.
  • Support the aims of The Weir Link by contributing to the development of a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for all.

Key Skills:

  • Experience teaching or tutoring primary-aged children in Maths (Key Stage 2).
  • Excellent communication skills with children and adults.
  • Strong understanding of the UK National Curriculum for primary Maths.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Professional, reliable, and punctual.
  • Able to work independently and manage small group dynamics effectively.
  • Desirable: Experience working with children from diverse and low-income backgrounds.
  • A teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent) or degree in Maths/related field.
  • Familiarity with online educational tools and platforms.

Hours: 4:30 – 5:30 Mondays, 1 hour per session during term time (approx. 9 weeks per term)

Reports to: Centre Director

Terms of Engagement

£50 per session (1 hour per week during school term times). The role is freelance/self-employed and subject to references and DBS clearance. Sessions will take place at The Weir Link, Rowan Room, on Monday afternoons from 4:30 – 5:30, term time only starting September 2025 until July 2026.
