Summary: The Community Empowerment Officer for the Oswestry Depave project will lead and manage community depaving initiatives aimed at enhancing urban greening and combating climate change. This role involves engaging with local communities and stakeholders, overseeing project delivery, and coordinating with contractors. The position is hybrid, requiring regular travel to Oswestry, and is offered on a fixed-term contract until March 2027.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, coordinate, and manage community depaving projects from inception to completion.
- Engage with local communities and Oswestry Town Council to facilitate community-centered design processes.
- Report on project progress and assist in developing new funding proposals.
- Oversee and coordinate contractors involved in project delivery.
- Support the multi-disciplinary Landscape Recovery Department in project execution.
- Provide evidence and learning to align with the Severn Valley Water Management Scheme and River Severn Partnership objectives.
Key Skills:
- Passionate advocate for community development and nature-based solutions.
- Understanding of effective community organizing principles and practices.
- Proven track record in collaborating with communities, volunteers, landowners, charities, and statutory agencies.
- Ability to negotiate and persuade stakeholders effectively.
- Clean driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Experience in project management, including budget management and grant claims.
- Experience in coordinating contractors for project delivery.
