Summary: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role is a senior leadership position for a public sector client in Cardiff, focusing on financial management and governance. The position is on an initial 6-month contract with hybrid working arrangements, requiring attendance in the office three days a week. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic financial management, governance, and stewardship.
  • Lead Finance, Commercial, and Economics functions.
  • Act as Lead Executive for Audit & Risk and Chair of Finance and Investment Committees.
  • Ensure value-for-money and compliance with Managing Public Money.
  • Drive procurement strategy and commercial assurance.
  • Influence stakeholders at board/government level.
  • Prepare high-level reporting including annual accounts and statutory returns.

Key Skills:

  • Senior financial leadership experience in complex organizations, ideally in the public sector.
  • Proven skills in strategic financial management and governance.
  • Experience in leading finance and commercial functions.
  • Fully qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of public sector finance and governance frameworks.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at board/government level.

Salary (Rate): £950 daily

Detailed Description From Employer:

We’re looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for our public sector client based in Cardiff on an initial 6-month contract paying between £900 to £950 per day Inside IR35. This role allows hybrid working with an expectation to attend the office 3 days per week. You will need to bring senior financial leadership experience within complex organisations, ideally in the public sector, with a proven track record of managing transformation, risk, and commercial governance. The successful CFO will possess proven skills working with the following –

  • Strategic financial management, governance, and stewardship
  • Leading Finance, Commercial, and Economics functions
  • Acting as Lead Executive for Audit & Risk, and Chair of Finance and Investment Committees
  • Delivering value-for-money and compliance with Managing Public Money
  • Driving procurement strategy and commercial assurance
