Summary: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role is a senior leadership position for a public sector client in Cardiff, focusing on financial management and governance. The position is on an initial 6-month contract with hybrid working arrangements, requiring attendance in the office three days a week. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in complex organizations, particularly in the public sector, and a strong track record in transformation and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic financial management, governance, and stewardship.
- Lead Finance, Commercial, and Economics functions.
- Act as Lead Executive for Audit & Risk and Chair of Finance and Investment Committees.
- Ensure value-for-money and compliance with Managing Public Money.
- Drive procurement strategy and commercial assurance.
- Influence stakeholders at board/government level.
- Prepare high-level reporting including annual accounts and statutory returns.
Key Skills:
- Senior financial leadership experience in complex organizations, ideally in the public sector.
- Proven skills in strategic financial management and governance.
- Experience in leading finance and commercial functions.
- Fully qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of public sector finance and governance frameworks.
- Ability to influence stakeholders at board/government level.
Salary (Rate): £950 daily

We’re looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for our public sector client based in Cardiff on an initial 6-month contract paying between £900 to £950 per day Inside IR35. This role allows hybrid working with an expectation to attend the office 3 days per week. You will need to bring senior financial leadership experience within complex organisations, ideally in the public sector, with a proven track record of managing transformation, risk, and commercial governance. The successful CFO will possess proven skills working with the following –
- Strategic financial management, governance, and stewardship
