Summary: As a CBRN FRS Station Commander, you will represent the Fire and Rescue Service at the National CBRN Centre, collaborating with various teams to enhance the police and FRS response to CBRN terrorism. Your role will involve supporting the implementation of national CBRN capabilities and providing expertise to ensure interoperability across services. You will also be responsible for operational cover and supporting national emergency responses as needed. This position is based in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation and delivery of UK Police CBRN capability, including national programmes.
- Provide FRS SME knowledge to influence police projects and support national CBRN interoperability.
- Work with UK Government and industry to develop and deliver CBRN products and services.
- Support the NCBRNC warehousing and logistics hub to meet project milestones for national PPE rollout.
- Perform occasional duties outside normal working hours for significant events.
- Support national emergency responses as required.
- Carry out tasks as directed by the Head of Centre or Capabilities Manager.

Information About The Role
As an FRS Station Commander, you will represent the Fire and Rescue Service at the National CBRN Centre. You will work across (and in conjunction with) the four thematic teams of CBRN Capabilities, Training & CPD, Operations, and Performance & Development, to support, strengthen and assure the overall police and FRS response to CBRN Terrorism. You will operate in support of the National Co-ordination Advisory Framework (NCAF). This role will be based within the Capabilities Team at NCBRNC based at Ryton-on-Dunsmore in Coventry. Where required, there will be an expectation to provide operational cover for National Resilience (NR) as directed and in accordance with the Lead Authority rota system as directed by the NR Duty Officer.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and delivery of UK Police CBRN capability including current programmes such as the national Next Generation PPE programme, Police DIM uplift, ARV and Advanced Responder projects to strengthen the UK’s preparedness and response to CBRN terrorism.
- Provide FRS SME knowledge to inform and influence police projects by supporting national CBRN interoperability across all service areas.
- Working with UK Government and industry to innovate, develop, and deliver CBRN products and services to strengthen and maintain national CBRN capability and improve interoperability.
- Provide support to the NCBRNC warehousing and logistics hub, working to strict timescales to ensure the national PPE programme rollout meets individual project milestones to equip specialist responders nationally.
- To perform occasional duties outside normal working hours in support of high profile or nationally significant events.
- To support the response to a national emergency where activation of the capability mobilisation plan is required.
- Be prepared to carry out any tasks that the Head of Centre, Capabilities Manager requires that are commensurate with role. Examples could include support to the delivery of CBRN training & CPD, testing & exercising and assurance events across all emergency services.
