Summary: The Buyer - Manufacturing role involves ensuring the timely procurement of products at optimal cost and quality for an innovative laboratory equipment manufacturer. The role is based in Orpington and is a temporary assignment with potential for extension. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency and supplier performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with all stakeholders within the business.
  • Manage the entire procurement cycle and achieve key targets set by the purchasing function.
  • Manage supplier risk and create strategies to meet business objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers and improve operational efficiency.
  • Mitigate price increases and seek cost reductions.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure supplier performance meets KPIs.
  • Work with the engineering department to achieve NPD targets.

Key Skills:

  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and quality standards for scientific instrumentation.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment and with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Strong IT skills, including advanced data analysis tools.
  • Commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, quality, operations, and R&D teams.

Status: Temporary 3-month assignment, may go longer

Working hours : 8am - 4.30pm (8h shift) Monday - Friday, 40h per week

What You'll be Doin g:The buyer’s responsibility is to ensure the right product, is in the right place, at the right time, at the right cost and at the right qualit y.

Responsibiliti es:Engage with all stakeholders within the busine ss.Have extensive experience and track record of the whole procurement cyc le.Achieve key targets set by the purchasing function and head of operations including on-time delivery, supplier performance, and inventory leve ls.Manage supplier risk in and out of the busine ss.Help create and implement strategies which meet business objectiv es.Identify new suppliers for the business who can offer new, innovative ideas to support new and current desig ns.Evaluate potential suppliers through vendor management proce ss.Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improveme nt.Mitigate price increases and actively seek cost reductio ns.Ability to assess and mitigate supplier risks including geopolitical, logistics, quality, and financial risks using structured risk assessment too ls.Support and work closely within the team to ensure supplier performance is within agreed KPIs, provide KPI reports to the Supply Chain Manag er.Collaborate with the planning team to ensure the company achieves on time delivery targe ts.Work collectively with the engineering department to achieve NPD targets for product desig ns.

The Skills You'll Need to Succ eed:Understanding of regulatory requirements and quality standards applicable to scientific instrumentation (e.g., ISO, RoHS, REACH, or FDA where releva nt).Experience working in a manufacturing environm ent.MRP/ERP system experie nce.Experience of auditing suppliers on- sit.Experience of forecast and safety sto cks.Strong IT skills including proficiency in using advanced data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) to evaluate supplier performance, trends, and procurement metr ics.Commercially and financially aw are.Great attention to detail and accur acy.Good technical background and ability to read an engineering drawing (not essential but desira ble.Proven ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, quality, operations, and R&D te ams.
