What You'll be Doing: The buyer’s responsibility is to ensure the right product, is in the right place, at the right time, at the right cost and at the right quality. Responsibilities: Engage with all stakeholders within the business. Have extensive experience and track record of the whole procurement cycle. Achieve key targets set by the purchasing function and head of operations including on-time delivery, supplier performance, and inventory levels. Manage supplier risk in and out of the business. Help create and implement strategies which meet business objectives. Identify new suppliers for the business who can offer new, innovative ideas to support new and current designs. Evaluate potential suppliers through vendor management process. Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement. Mitigate price increases and actively seek cost reductions. Ability to assess and mitigate supplier risks including geopolitical, logistics, quality, and financial risks using structured risk assessment tools. Support and work closely within the team to ensure supplier performance is within agreed KPIs, provide KPI reports to the Supply Chain Manager. Collaborate with the planning team to ensure the company achieves on time delivery targets. Work collectively with the engineering department to achieve NPD targets for product designs. The Skills You'll Need to Succeed: Understanding of regulatory requirements and quality standards applicable to scientific instrumentation (e.g., ISO, RoHS, REACH, or FDA where relevant). Experience working in a manufacturing environment. MRP/ERP system experience. Experience of auditing suppliers on-sit. Experience of forecast and safety stocks. Strong IT skills including proficiency in using advanced data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) to evaluate supplier performance, trends, and procurement metrics. Commercially and financially aware. Great attention to detail and accuracy. Good technical background and ability to read an engineering drawing (not essential but desirable.
