Summary: Bromley Council is looking for a Senior Practitioner to join their Referral & Assessment Team, focusing on child protection and ensuring effective interventions for children and families. The role involves managing complex assessments, conducting child protection enquiries, and providing guidance to junior social workers. This position offers a hybrid working arrangement and emphasizes collaboration with various agencies to achieve the best outcomes for children. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in children's social work and strong leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex assessments within statutory timescales, ensuring thorough investigations and decision-making.
  • Conduct Section 47 child protection enquiries, Child in Need (CIN) and Child & Family Assessments.
  • Work closely with families, schools, police, health professionals, and other agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  • Provide professional guidance and support to less experienced social workers in the team.
  • Chair strategy discussions and contribute to care planning for children at risk.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and assessments for court proceedings, child protection conferences, and panel meetings.
  • Support the duty rota, responding to new referrals and safeguarding concerns.
  • Ensure all casework complies with legislative and policy frameworks.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with Social Work England registration.
  • Extensive experience in frontline children's social work, particularly in referral & assessment, child protection, and safeguarding.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory guidance, relevant legislation (Children Act 1989, Working Together 2018), and best practices.
  • Experience of Section 47 investigations, risk assessments, and multi-agency working.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills, with the ability to present evidence in court when required.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, supporting junior social workers in complex cases.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities effectively.
