Summary: The Azure Data Platform Engineer will be responsible for designing and managing cloud-based data infrastructure primarily in Microsoft Azure, contributing to a digital research programme focused on high-performance computing and health research. This role involves collaboration with Software Engineering and Data and Analytics teams, as well as mentoring junior engineers. The position is hybrid, requiring one day a week in the office, and is offered on a fixed-term basis with potential for extension. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement data systems using Azure Data Lake, Blob Storage, Cosmos DB, and SQL Database
- Build and manage ETL pipelines with Azure Data Factory
- Develop big data workflows using Databricks and Apache Spark
- Write and maintain infrastructure code using Terraform (not just using modules writing the code is essential)
- Monitor and improve cloud performance, security, and documentation
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to best practices and future tech direction
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform (writing IaC from scratch)
- Proven knowledge of Azure Compute, data storage, and integration tools
- Automation mindset with a strong focus on security and performance
- Experience leading technical tasks and collaborating across teams

We're hiring an Azure Data Platform Engineer to join a digital research programme focused on high-performance computing and real-world impact, including health research such as Parkinson's disease studies.
The Azure Data Platform Engineer will lead on design and management of cloud-based data infrastructure, working primarily in Microsoft Azure. The role sits within Cloud Operations but works closely with Software Engineering and Data and Analytics teams.
