Summary: The Apprenticeships Functional Skills Tutor at Tresham College is responsible for preparing, delivering, and assessing functional skills in English and Mathematics for apprentices. This role involves supporting students to achieve their potential, managing their learning experiences, and contributing to curriculum development. The tutor will also be involved in monitoring student progress and ensuring high-quality educational standards are met. The position requires a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, deliver, and assess level 1 and level 2 functional skills English and Mathematics.
  • Support and guide students to achieve success and realize their potential.
  • Manage students’ learning and provide a high-quality learning experience.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and innovate teaching methods.
  • Prepare up-to-date schemes of work that meet awarding body requirements.
  • Research and implement new learning materials to engage students.
  • Assess students’ work to meet awarding body standards and carry out verification and moderation.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, taking action to ensure standards are met.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records on students’ performance.
  • Develop vocational opportunities linked to apprenticeships and real-life situations.
  • Lead curriculum development and organize contributions from other teaching staff.
  • Act as a designated tutor and provide student support.
  • Mentor new teaching staff as part of the induction process.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
  • Promote equality and diversity in line with college procedures.
  • Follow health and safety requirements in line with college policy.
  • Participate in training and development for continuous professional growth.

Key Skills:

  • Relevant degree and/or level 3 qualifications in English and Mathematics.
  • Certificate in Education/PGCE or equivalent.
  • Recent experience of teaching and assessing functional skills courses.
  • Knowledge of current developments in the specialist area.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to continuous skill and knowledge updates.
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements relevant to the job.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
