Summary: The z Network – Service Engineer role involves providing technical support and project delivery for a mainframe networking estate within a leading UK financial services organization. The position emphasizes infrastructure modernization, operational support, and system stability, requiring collaboration with stakeholders and adherence to Agile/DevOps methodologies. The engineer will also be responsible for on-call and out-of-hours support as needed. This hybrid role is based in Edinburgh, with a focus on maintaining and optimizing mainframe networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain service stability and optimise mainframe networks.
  • Support & implement changes within the estate.
  • Resolve incidents and problems within agreed KPIs.
  • Provide 24×7 operational support (on-call & out-of-hours as needed).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and align technology solutions with business needs.
  • Drive automation, standardisation, and process improvements.

Key Skills:

  • Extensive mainframe networking experience (z/OS & z/VM).
  • Strong knowledge of Communication Server, SNA, TCP/IP.
  • Expertise in session management tools (TPX, CL/Supersession, NC-Access).
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (IBM NetView).
  • Proficient in JCL, USS, SDSF, and mainframe system administration.
  • Hands-on experience in incident resolution & troubleshooting critical systems.
  • Familiarity with ITIL best practices, change management & automation (REXX, Unix Shell, JCL).
  • Experience working in Agile & DevOps environments with tools like Jira & Confluence.
  • Understanding of disaster recovery, security protocols & compliance standards.

Salary (Rate): £525
