Summary: The z Network – Service Engineer role at a leading UK financial services organization involves providing technical support and project delivery for the mainframe networking estate. The position emphasizes infrastructure modernization, resilience improvements, and operational support, requiring collaboration within Agile/DevOps environments. The engineer will ensure system stability and performance optimization while being responsible for on-call and out-of-hours support. This hybrid role requires a strong background in mainframe networking and incident resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain service stability and optimise mainframe networks.
• Support & implement changes within the estate.
• Resolve incidents and problems within agreed KPIs.
• Provide 24×7 operational support (on-call & out-of-hours as needed).
• Collaborate with stakeholders and align technology solutions with business needs.
• Drive automation, standardisation, and process improvements.

Key Skills:

• Extensive mainframe networking experience (z/OS & z/VM).
• Strong knowledge of Communication Server, SNA, TCP/IP.
• Expertise in session management tools (TPX, CL/Supersession, NC-Access).
• Experience with network monitoring tools (IBM NetView).
• Proficient in JCL, USS, SDSF, and mainframe system administration.
• Hands-on experience in incident resolution & troubleshooting critical systems.
• Familiarity with ITIL best practices, change management & automation (REXX, Unix Shell, JCL).
• Experience working in Agile & DevOps environments with tools like Jira & Confluence.
• Understanding of disaster recovery, security protocols & compliance standards.
