Summary: The Young Women’s Keyworker role involves providing specialized, trauma-informed support and advocacy to young women aged 15–24 who are involved in or at risk of involvement in the Criminal Justice System. This position requires community outreach, probation liaison, and custody support, focusing on building trusted relationships and coordinating multi-agency assistance. The role is exclusively open to female applicants due to its genuine occupational requirement. Candidates must have HMPPS EL 1 or EL 2 vetting in place prior to application consideration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-reach custody support via video, telephone, and face to face, including gate pick ups on release
- Deliver outreach support and advocacy to young women in the community
- Complete holistic needs and risk assessments
- Develop, implement, and regularly review individual support plans
- Provide consistent emotional and practical support using a trauma informed, non-judgemental approach
- Attend probation offices and work closely with National Probation Service staff
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with statutory and voluntary agencies
- Advocate for young women at housing, social services, MARAC, and IOM panels
- Maintain accurate case records using digital systems and Ministry of Justice portals
- Support engagement with women’s centres, activities, and peer mentor services
Key Skills:
- Significant experience supporting young women affected by offending or at risk of offending
- Strong understanding of the challenges facing vulnerable young women and girls
- Experience completing needs and risk assessments and managing risk
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently, including lone working
- Strong crisis management and de-escalation skills
