Summary: The Workplace Design Standards Manager will play a strategic role in a prestigious government organization, focusing on design assurance for a large portfolio of workplace and job centre projects. This position requires stakeholder engagement and is not hands-on in design. The role is based in various hubs across England, excluding London, with a contract lasting until March 2025. The position is classified as inside IR35 and requires BPSS security clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide design assurance across up to 300 concurrent projects
- Ensure compliance with internal standards (e.g., BS8300)
- Contribute to and evolve design standards and guidance
- Conduct post-occupancy evaluations
- Support programme lifecycle activities and governance
- Evaluate costs, logistics, and practicalities of office design
- Lead/support process reviews and continuous improvement
- Develop and implement workplace design and technical property standards
- Promote sustainable, inclusive, and efficient workspaces
- Provide strategic advice across all RIBA stages
- Collaborate with stakeholders and guide external contractors
Key Skills:
- Background in architecture or interior design (commercial/retail preferred)
- Experience with large-scale workplace or job centre projects
- Strong understanding of inclusive design and accessibility
- Skilled in stakeholder management and presenting to large groups
- Experience in writing and evolving design standards
- Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and RIBA processes

Location: Any hub (excluding London) – 3 days onsite/week

Pay Rate: Up to £500/day (via umbrella)
