Summary: The Workplace Design Standards Manager will play a strategic role in a prestigious government organization, focusing on design assurance for a large portfolio of workplace and job centre projects. This position requires stakeholder engagement and is not hands-on in design. The role is based in various hubs across England, excluding London, with a contract lasting until March 2025. The position is classified as inside IR35 and requires BPSS security clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide design assurance across up to 300 concurrent projects
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards (e.g., BS8300)
  • Contribute to and evolve design standards and guidance
  • Conduct post-occupancy evaluations
  • Support programme lifecycle activities and governance
  • Evaluate costs, logistics, and practicalities of office design
  • Lead/support process reviews and continuous improvement
  • Develop and implement workplace design and technical property standards
  • Promote sustainable, inclusive, and efficient workspaces
  • Provide strategic advice across all RIBA stages
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and guide external contractors

Key Skills:

  • Background in architecture or interior design (commercial/retail preferred)
  • Experience with large-scale workplace or job centre projects
  • Strong understanding of inclusive design and accessibility
  • Skilled in stakeholder management and presenting to large groups
  • Experience in writing and evolving design standards
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and RIBA processes

My client, a prestigious government organisation are seeking a Workplace Design Standards Manager to join in a strategic, stakeholder-facing architectural role, focused on design assurance across a large portfolio of workplace and job centre projects. This is not a hands-on design role.

Contract Length: Until 31 March 2025 (extension TBC)

Location: Any hub (excluding London) – 3 days onsite/week

Preferred Hubs: Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Cardiff, Glasgow, Newcastle

IR35 Status: In Scope

Pay Rate: Up to £500/day (via umbrella)

Security Clearance: BPSS
