Summary: The Digital Journalist for Health and Wellness will lead and shape health coverage for a prominent digital media platform, focusing on producing engaging and original content. This role requires a proactive approach to health trends and collaboration with the Audience team to enhance traffic and engagement. The position is a 12-month fixed-term contract based in London, offering a chance to innovate in health storytelling. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in digital journalism and a passion for health and wellness topics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stay ahead of health and wellness trends, pitching, writing, and creating trending and seasonal content daily.
- Write top-tier original articles that stand out while complementing third-party health content.
- Develop and explore innovative ways to tell health and wellness stories through creative formats.
- Collaborate with the Audience team to make data-driven editorial decisions that grow traffic and engagement for health content.
- Assist the Lifestyle Lead by managing the health and wellness team’s workflow in her absence.
- Flexibly respond to breaking health news and strategically plan long-term wellness features.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience working in a similar role for another leading digital publisher/media owner.
- 3+ years of experience in digital journalism, with a solid understanding of CMS, metadata, tagging, captions, and audience insights.
- Skilled in interviewing, sourcing health-related stories, and editing content, with a strong grasp of media law.
- Experience working with data and video, or a willingness to learn these skills for health and wellness storytelling.
- In-depth understanding of the UK health and wellness news landscape and audience interests.
- NCTJ qualification (or equivalent) and a track record of creating innovative, shareable health and wellness content.
- Excellent communication, inclusivity, and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in SEO and an ability to craft a distinctive voice and perspective in health journalism.
