Summary: The Wearables Designer role at Bioliberty involves developing innovative wearable products that integrate with soft robotic solutions for rehabilitation. The position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to create functional and aesthetically pleasing garments for patients with mobility challenges. The role is based at the National Robotarium in Edinburgh and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technology in the medical field. This is a fixed-term contract with potential for extension or transition to a permanent position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Physically prototyping and developing Bioliberty’s next range of wearable products.
- Working with patients who have mobility challenges to understand their needs.
- Developing wearable medical devices that complement Bioliberty’s soft robotics.
- Conducting R&D on materials, pattern making, and construction methods for garments.
- Collaborating with other product designers to create functional wearable medical devices.
- Creating garment specifications and assembly documentation for manufacturers.
- Liaising with suppliers to ensure new products meet technical standards.
Key Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding of fabric and textile material properties.
- Excellent garment prototyping skills.
- Extensive knowledge of garment production, manufacturing, and construction methods.
- Understanding of pattern making and cutting.
- Creative eye for design and innovative problem-solving approach.
- Practical experience using CAD design software (Adobe Creative Cloud, Optitex 2D).
- University degree in a relevant fashion industry field.
- Practical/hands-on industry experience in garment development.
- Strong knowledge of fabric and pattern development.
- Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team.
