VMWare Engineer/ESX PaaS SME

Summary: The VMware Engineer role involves joining a deployment team for a significant hardware rollout for a government account, requiring a valid DV clearance. The position is fully onsite in Bracknell, focusing on the configuration and deployment of ESX devices within a broader infrastructure program. The engineer will be responsible for building and configuring VMware ESX hosts and providing support during hardware testing phases. This role demands strong collaboration skills and the ability to work independently in a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and configure VMware ESX hosts according to detailed build guides within a project deployment environment.
• Install hardware onsite, including racking and cabling activities as required.
• Provide remote support during hardware testing phases to assist with technical validation.
• Engage with internal service teams to ensure successful handover and support of newly deployed hardware.
• Deliver regular updates on progress and issues to the Project Manager and team leads.
• Support occasional out-of-hours work due to the nature of customer operations.

Key Skills:

• Demonstrated experience as an Infrastructure Engineer in project-based environments, particularly building from structured documentation.
• Solid technical background across enterprise infrastructure, including strong VMware/vSphere experience.
• Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision, proactively resolving issues and identifying root causes.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work effectively within technical teams and with wider stakeholders.
• Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow process and documentation precisely.
• Previous experience working with large government clients or in secure environments.
• Positive, can-do attitude with a solution-focused mindset.
