Summary: The VBA Developer role at Beechfield Brands involves maintaining and enhancing a critical Line of Business application built in Access VBA with a SQL Server back end. The position requires a commitment of at least two years and focuses on ensuring system reliability, performance, and data integrity while supporting enhancements and data migration efforts. The developer will work closely with various teams to align system functionality with business needs. This full-time role is based in Bury, Lancashire, and offers a competitive salary package.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and resolve issues in the Line of Business application within agreed service levels.
- Maintain and optimise the SQL Server Back End to ensure availability, integrity, and performance.
- Ensure backups are completed in accordance with DR policy standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability and implement agreed solutions.
- Respond to user requests for changes or enhancements; analyse, scope, estimate and implement solutions following management approval.
- Assist in preparing and cleansing data for future system migrations.
- Prepare data extracts for use with Business Intelligence tools (eg, Power BI).
- Produce high-quality technical and user documentation, including revisiting areas of the existing system that lack up-to-date documentation.
- Conduct data quality improvements aligned to our Data Audit findings.
- Collaborate effectively with IT, PMO, BI and operational teams to ensure system functionality aligns with evolving business needs.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or equivalent (desirable).
- Proven experience supporting Legacy systems in business-critical environments.
- Strong, hands-on experience with Access VBA development and debugging.
- Solid knowledge of SQL Server, including stored procedures, indexing, performance tuning, and backup processes.
- Ability to interpret and evolve existing systems with minimal documentation.
- Experience working closely with non-technical users to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage conflicting priorities effectively.
- Available for Full time hours (minimum four days per week) with flexibility for occasional emergency out-of-hours support.
- Able to attend the Bury office as required.

The Core Purpose of this role
The core purpose of this role is to maintain and enhance Beechfield Brands' core Line of Business application, a business-critical system built in Access VBA with a SQL Server Back End. This application underpins Sales Order Processing and Purchasing functions. The role will ensure system reliability, performance, data integrity, and continuous improvement. The post-holder will also support enhancements, new functionality requests, data preparation for BI and data migration, and contribute to documentation and data quality initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or equivalent (desirable) Professional certifications in Microsoft technologies (SQL Server, VBA, Access, or related fields) (optional but advantageous)
