Summary: Orka Financial is looking for a VAT Specialist to join a finance team in Crowthorne, focusing on UK and EU VAT compliance. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit UK and EU VAT returns, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations.
- Conduct regular VAT reconciliations and ensure accuracy of VAT postings in the general ledger.
- Monitor changes in VAT legislation and assess their impact on the business.
- Support with the preparation and submission of EC Sales Lists (ESL), Intrastat declarations, and other indirect tax filings.
- Provide VAT advice on domestic and international transactions, including cross-border supply chains and services.
- Liaise with HMRC and other relevant tax authorities on audits, queries, and information requests.
- Partner with procurement and commercial teams to assess VAT treatment of contracts and purchases.
- Identify areas for VAT process improvement and support in system enhancements or automation.
- Assist in internal VAT training and guidance for non-finance teams.
- Support wider finance team with ad-hoc tax and compliance-related queries.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in VAT-focused roles, ideally in a corporate or practice setting.
- Strong working knowledge of UK VAT legislation; EU VAT experience is a plus.
- Part-qualified or qualified in ATT / ACA / ACCA / CTA, or equivalent experience.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
- Ability to communicate complex VAT matters clearly to non-tax colleagues.
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple deadlines.
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, NetSuite or similar ERP systems preferred.
