Summary: The University of Southampton is seeking a UX Designer for a fixed-term position of 12 months to cover maternity leave. The role involves creating user-centered designs that enhance user experiences across various university products and services. The successful candidate will collaborate with multiple teams to address user needs and improve accessibility standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Problem solve complex design challenges, iterate, and test solutions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to build a rich picture of users.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices.
  • Work closely with product managers, user researchers, content designers, and other disciplines to turn user research findings into design concepts.
  • Communicate and explain design concepts and the logic behind them.
  • Run workshops and lead design activities with tech teams and business stakeholders.
  • Work in Figma and understand design systems, including component libraries and responsive design best practices.

Key Skills:

  • Experience advocating for design research and championing for all users.
  • Interaction design skills such as sketching, prototyping, and user journeys.
  • Ability to incorporate UX into agile development sprints.
  • Strong understanding of techniques, tools, patterns, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to organize and structure complex information for diverse audiences.
