Detailed Description From Employer:

UX / Interaction Designer (GDS) – Contract

We’re representing a leading consultancy that delivers high-impact public-sector work and moves fast. They’re looking for a UX / UI Designer who can operate at pace, think clearly under pressure, and bring real-world GDS delivery experience not just theory. If you’re the kind of designer who can produce high-quality work while taking live feedback on a call, operate across multiple workstreams, and justify your decisions with confidence, you’ll fit in here.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll own UX and interaction design across several streams, working closely with internal teams and a very visual client. Expect quick turnarounds, minimal hand-holding, and limited traditional UX cycles. You’ll need to rely heavily on your own judgment, experience, and communication skills. This is a role for someone who thrives in the real world — not someone who needs a 20-page research deck before drawing a screen.

Essential Experience

  • Strong Figma capability, able to design at speed — including during live working sessions
  • Ability to prototype using the GDS prototyping toolkit
  • Experience delivering services through GDS Alpha/Beta assessments
  • Confident communicator who can explain the “why” behind decisions
  • Able to handle design/process challenges from the client and push back with rationale
  • Comfortable delivering with limited iterations, limited discovery, and limited research
  • Can switch between multiple workstreams without losing quality
  • Works visually, collaboratively, and decisively

Who This Role Suits

Designers who:

  • Don’t need perfect conditions to deliver great work
  • Can handle ambiguity without losing momentum
  • Have real GDS delivery experience not just worked on a Gov project
  • Can think fast, design fast, and communicate with clarity

If you’re confident in your craft and used to high-trust, high-expectation environments, you’ll excel here. We’re reviewing immediately.
