Summary: Compost Creative is seeking a mid-level Unreal Engine Technical Artist/Technical Director to join their London studio for a 4 to 8-week project. The role involves optimizing asset pipelines and collaborating with the animation team to enhance various animation projects and cinematic content using Unreal Engine. The ideal candidate will have a blend of technical and artistic skills, contributing to the studio's innovative projects. This position is strictly in-studio, with no remote or hybrid options available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the wider team with technical implementation and optimisation of assets and materials within Unreal Engine.
  • Create and manage shaders, materials, and visual effects in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Develop efficient pipelines for importing and integrating assets.
  • Identify and fix performance issues related to materials, lighting, and geometry.
  • Automate and streamline repetitive art tasks to improve productivity.
  • Ensure visual consistency across all environments, props, and characters.
  • Collaborate on lighting, rendering, and asset optimisation strategies.
  • Document workflows and technical standards for the art team.
  • Maintaining a good understanding of technical developments and industry trends and apply this knowledge to your work.
  • Report to Producer and senior team about progress and deadlines.

Key Skills:

  • A minimum of three years experience in a similar role.
  • Expertise with Unreal Editor, Unreal Engine, C++ APIs and Perforce.
  • Programming experience in C++ & Python.
  • Experience with Metahuman and character animation pipelines.
  • Experience with animation workflows ideally within animation, VFX or Games Industry.
  • Experience with high resolution rendering pipelines.
  • High proficiency with at least one additional digital content creation package (Maya, 3DS Max, Houdini, Blender etc.).
  • Proficiency using Adobe suite.
  • Self-motivated to learn and work within the wider team.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Strong creative eye.
  • Ability to receive and act upon creative feedback promptly, and to meet strict deadlines.
  • Clear and collaborative communicator.

Job Description Compost Creative is currently looking for a talented mid level Unreal Engine Technical Artist / Technical Director to join our creative team in London for a range of exciting projects across a 4 week period , with the potential to continue to 8 weeks in total, should things go well. As an Unreal TD/TA, you will be helping the studio team utilise Unreal Engine within the existing pipeline to meet the varying needs of a variety of animation projects and cinematic content. Responsibilities will include supporting the team by managing asset pipelines, and optimizing performance. Managing shaders, environments and rendering within Unreal. Collaborating with the animation team (maya pipeline) and assisting with the mocap workflow. As a small boutique studio, the ideal candidate that we are looking for is a mix of a TD/TA.
