Key Responsibilities:

  • Update documentation and review the disaster recovery plan.

  • Monitor Progress Openedge errors and replication status.
  • Implement best security practices and manage backlog work on a time and materials basis.
  • Administer scripts and perform general system tidy-up tasks.
  • Upgrade Samba from SMBv1 and manage NIM server work.
  • Set up and test disaster recovery processes.
  • Manage new Progress Openedge backups to SAN and migrate physical volumes.

Job Title: Unix admin (AIX, Samba, SAN) Location: London, UK (3 days/week Onsite) Duration: 12months+

Job Summary: We have 3 Power machines with 8 guests running AIX 7.2, and 2 HMCs spread across two datacenters, we do not use HACMP, We do have a NIM server. The core application running is a Progress Open Edge database running a legacy application CLEAR that is used by our Industrial and commercial division. Graphical printing is via StreamServe running on an Oracle database. The storage is NPIV SAN running on Dell Unity Opportunity We have a skills shortage in house and would like to explore acquiring a service that would enable us to conduct the day-to-day administration activities of our Unix estate and be on call to provide overnight support in the event of a failure. We operate an application called AMCS Clear, an ERP specifically designed for the Waste Management industry and a critical part of our operation. This is in the process of being replaced with it’s more modern equivalent in the next 18 – 24 months after which we intend to extract the data and decommission

  • Update our Documentation
