Tree Officer

Summary: The Tree Officer role involves providing professional Arboricultural services within a local authority's Town Planning department, focusing on Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and Conservation Area applications. The position requires practical experience in local authority settings and entails ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies. The role is offered on an initial 3-month contract with the possibility of extension, and candidates can work part-time or full-time. Weekly site presence is required, with the potential for fortnightly visits.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide Arboricultural advice on tree protection matters to Council Officers.
• Monitor and update the register of Tree Preservation Orders and maintain a GIS database.
• Inspect, create, serve, confirm, and defend new Tree Preservation Orders.
• Conduct detailed appraisals of applications under protected tree legislation.
• Assess vegetation-induced subsidence and advise on tree application decisions.
• Diagnose tree health issues and recommend solutions based on best practices.
• Monitor compliance with arboricultural conditions attached to planning permissions.
• Raise public awareness of tree legislation and best practices through training.
• Investigate unauthorized tree felling and manage enforcement actions.
