Summary: The role of Transportation Engineer involves providing specialist technical and professional support in the design, development, and delivery of traffic, highways, and transportation schemes within a Public Sector client in South Yorkshire. The position requires experience in a local authority environment and focuses on managing infrastructure projects from feasibility to implementation. The ideal candidate will have a recognized qualification in relevant engineering fields and practical knowledge of applicable legislation. This is a full-time, temporary position with an immediate start available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and project managing a range of highways and traffic schemes from inception through detailed design
  • Producing cost estimates, technical drawings, and contract documents using relevant codes and standards
  • Providing consultancy advice, site inspections, and technical reports to support planning and delivery
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including developers, consultants, and statutory bodies
  • Supervising junior technical staff and managing project-related budgets

Key Skills:

  • A recognised qualification in Highways, Structures, or Traffic Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Practical knowledge of legislation including the Highways Act 1980, Traffic Management Act 2004, and CDM regulations
  • Experience delivering highways and traffic schemes in a local government setting
  • Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, GIS, or MapInfo
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, including presenting complex reports to elected members
  • Ability to manage projects, monitor performance indicators, and supervise technical teams

A client within the Public Sector based in South Yorkshire is currently recruiting for an Engineer to join their Highways & Transportation team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a highways/transportation engineering environment.

The Role

Key purpose of the role is to provide specialist technical and professional support in the design, development, and delivery of traffic, highways, and transportation schemes, ensuring safe and efficient management of infrastructure projects from feasibility through to implementation.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Designing and project managing a range of highways and traffic schemes from inception through detailed design

  • Providing consultancy advice, site inspections, and technical reports to support planning and delivery

The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • A recognised qualification in Highways, Structures, or Traffic Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience)

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £45 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £35 per hour PAYE).
