Summary: The Data Transformation Lead is a senior leadership role within a leading Financial Services business undergoing a significant digital transformation, focusing on developing internal data, AI, and engineering capabilities. This position is pivotal in establishing a firmwide data strategy, governance model, and fostering a strong data culture to support future growth and operational effectiveness. The role emphasizes long-term strategic direction rather than day-to-day delivery, with substantial influence over data governance and organizational adoption. The position is initially offered as an Outside IR35 contract with a strong possibility of becoming permanent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain the firmwide data strategy and roadmap, setting the long-term vision for how data and AI support business outcomes.
- Establish data governance frameworks and standards, covering data ownership, quality, security, privacy, and lifecycle management.
- Align data initiatives with business priorities and ensuring investment is focused on high-value outcomes and measurable impact.
- Ensure regulatory and risk alignment, embedding compliance, auditability, and control into data platforms and products.
- Drive organisational adoption and data culture, promoting data literacy, accountability, and consistent use of data across the firm.
- Partner closely with engineering and product leadership to ensure strategy and governance translate effectively into execution.

The Opportunity A leading Financial Services business has recently received significant PE backing and, as a result, is undertaking a major digital transformation, with a central focus on building a new internal data, AI, and engineering capability. As part of this programme, the organisation is creating a portfolio of internally developed data and AI products that will underpin future growth, insight, and operational effectiveness. A critical component of this transformation is the establishment of a firmwide data strategy, governance model, and long-term vision. To support this, the organisation is appointing a Data Transformation Lead — a foundational leadership role with material influence over strategy, governance, and organisational adoption of data. As the Data Transformation Lead is a senior leadership role, with material influence over strategy, operating model, and delivery outcomes.
The Strategic Challenge Following substantial investment, the organisation is rapidly scaling its internal digital capability and building out a new senior leadership team. This role is central to defining how data is governed, prioritised, and used across the firm. The Data Transformation Lead will be the driving force behind:
- Defining a clear, firmwide data strategy and roadmap
- Ensuring data initiatives are aligned to business priorities and regulatory requirements
- Establishing governance, standards, and ownership across data domains
- Driving organisation-wide adoption and a strong data culture
- Creating the foundations for scalable, trusted data and AI products
This role focuses on long-term direction and enablement, rather than day-to-day delivery.
Role Responsibilities The Data Transformation Lead will:

This is a senior, strategic leadership role, operating across technology, risk, and the wider business. This is a hands-on leadership role, spanning strategy, operating model design, and execution. Initially an Outside IR35 12 month contract, there is a very high likelihood that this role will be converted a permanent position beyond the initial term.
