Are you technically minded, practical and good at figuring out how things work? Perhaps you've recently completed a course or qualification in electrical installation, IT, engineering or another technical subject. Maybe you've started working in a practical role but are looking for an opportunity to build a long-term technical career. You do not need previous telecoms experience for this role. We're looking for someone with the right attitude, aptitude and willingness to learn. We'll provide the training.
The opportunity Talk UK Telecom is an established business telecommunications company providing mobile, broadband, connectivity and VoIP phone systems to businesses. We're looking for a Trainee Installation Engineer to join our team and learn how to install, maintain and troubleshoot the technology our customers rely on every day. You'll work alongside experienced members of our team and gradually develop the skills and knowledge to manage installations and technical visits independently.
You'll learn about:
VoIP business telephone systems
Broadband and internet connectivity
Routers and networking equipment
Handsets and associated hardware
Basic networking and connectivity
Diagnosing and resolving technical faults
Installing and configuring equipment at customer premises
Supporting customers when something isn't working
As your knowledge and experience develop, so will the level of responsibility you take on.
Who are we looking for? We're not looking for years of experience. We're looking for potential. You'll probably be the sort of person who:
Has a genuine interest in technology
Enjoys understanding how things work
Is naturally good at problem solving
Likes finding out why something isn't working rather than giving up
Is practical and comfortable working with equipment
Can follow instructions but also think for yourself
Is reliable, organised and takes pride in doing things properly
Is comfortable talking to customers
Wants to learn and build a career
You don't need to know how to install a business phone system on day one. That's what we'll teach you.
Your background You may have studied or worked in areas such as:
Electrical installation
IT or computing
Engineering
Electronics
Networking
Cabling
CCTV or security systems
AV installation
Other practical or technical subjects
But these are examples, not requirements. If you don't have one of these backgrounds but you're technically minded, practical and genuinely interested in learning, we'd still like to hear from you.
Driving licence A full UK driving licence is essential. This will become a field-based role visiting customer premises, and a company vehicle will be provided for work.
What happens next? This is a genuine trainee position. We don't expect you to arrive knowing our industry. We'll teach you our products, systems and installation processes and give you the opportunity to develop your technical skills through real-world experience.
