Summary: The role of Senior Social Worker in Secondary Schools at Tower Hamlets Council focuses on providing early intervention and support to young people within a school environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Work directly within secondary schools to provide support to students, families, and school staff.
  • Undertake assessments and interventions for children at risk of harm or those requiring additional support.
  • Develop and implement child-focused plans, ensuring young people have access to appropriate services.
  • Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and external agencies to support student welfare and prevent escalation to statutory services.
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, acting in line with statutory procedures.
  • Provide guidance and training to school staff on child protection and early help strategies.
  • Attend multi-agency meetings, including child protection conferences and education welfare meetings.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with Social Work England registration.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in children's social care (CIN, CP, LAC, Early Help, or similar).
  • Experience working with young people in education settings is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, risk assessment, and child development.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and school staff.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, Education Act 1996).
