Summary: The Tool Designer role at BAE Systems Air involves identifying and designing tooling solutions for the manufacture of components for the Typhoon aircraft. The position requires collaboration with design and engineering teams to ensure compliance with manufacturing standards and regulations. The designer will also participate in design reviews and identify opportunities for quality improvement and cost savings. Key Responsibilities:

• Identify and design tooling solutions for manufacturing components.
• Liaise with design and engineering organizations for design for manufacture input.
• Scheme and design tools while ensuring fit for purpose design.
• Collaborate with planning engineers and Subject Matter Experts for coherent tool design.
• Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing for component interchangeability.
• Ensure compliance with H&SE requirements and local manufacturing procedures.
• Participate in design reviews to demonstrate compliance with design requirements.
• Identify product quality and cost-saving opportunities.
• Capture and embody engineering and design changes.
• Advise on tool assembly, machining, and treatment processes.

Key Skills:

• HNC or higher level or recognized apprenticeship in tool design.
• Experience in tool design and manufacturing in the aerospace industry.
• Knowledge of detail and assembly manufacturing processes.
• Manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or equivalent.
• Proficient in standard office IT packages.
• Knowledge of engineering toolsets such as CATIA V5, PLM, SAP CAM, or SFM.
• Good interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.
• Ability to manage unplanned events and work under tight deadlines.
