Summary: The Test Lead for Smart Metering will oversee the testing processes and ensure compliance within a dynamic and agile environment at E.ON Next. This role requires a strong understanding of the energy market and smart metering, as well as collaboration with various teams and third-party vendors. The Test Lead will manage a dedicated team, define testing requirements, and support the launch of new technology while maintaining stakeholder engagement. This position is critical for delivering complex smart metering change programs effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand, map, and define test requirements across multiple business owners and system integrations.
- Manage a dedicated team of test analysts focused on Smart delivery to E.ON Next standards.
- Plan, manage, and execute rounds of testing using defined entry/exit criteria.
- Provide assurance for external parties, completing testing across numerous end-to-end test phases.
- Establish and manage processes for defect and change request management.
- Collaborate with product teams, business owners, tech teams, and SaaS providers.
- Engage with Smart industry programs to influence delivery outcomes.
- Support in identifying risks and issues throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Test, assure, and support the launch of new technology.
- Maintain communication with stakeholders and build a strong network across the business.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Test Lead with meticulous attention to detail to help us deliver an amazing software that will innovate the way we communicate with and manage our millions strong Smart meter base. We are a flat and agile organisation and plan to remain this way. We are looking for a hands-on Test Lead that can help build, test and assure our tech capability across our business as we continue to grow, in a tightly regulated industry. It is important that we understand our customers’ problems and adopt solutions that really add value. You'll need a strong understanding of the energy market, Smart metering processes and procedures, and how technology can be leveraged to enable E.ON Next to deliver complex Smart metering change programmes. You will need to work in partnership with technology, business, compliance & operational teams as well as engage with third party vendors and wider industry partners. In this role, the Test Lead will play a key role in the refinement, setup, test, assurance and go live of E.ON Next’s partnership with their chosen Smart adapter provider, involving complexity across a range of journeys where change is necessary. This includes but is not limited to asset and field management, device connectivity and day-to-day device operation.

- Understanding, mapping and defining test requirements, activities and dependencies across multiple business owners, areas and system integrations
- Managing a dedicated team of test analysts focussed on Smart delivery to E.ON Next standards and compliance and regulatory obligations
- Plan, manage and execute rounds of testing using agreed and defined entry/exit criteria and scope
- Provide assurance for external parties and partners, completing testing across numerous end to end test phases
- Establish & manage our own processes (Defect and CR management), test environments, data, test management/tools, labs and simulators
- Collaborating closely with the product teams, business owners, tech teams and SaaS providers as we create, refine and deliver our product pipeline
- Engagement with Smart industry programmes to shape and influence both intent and delivery outcomes
- Support in identification of risks and issues through the delivery life cycle; design, build and test
- Test, assure and support the launch of new technology
- Keep relevant stakeholders updated and build a strong network across our business and third parties.
Are we the perfect match?
Experience of managing a test team, prioritising and allocating duties. Knowledge of Industry Smart metering forums, processes and architecture (desirable). Experience working with SaaS providers and industry bodies. Experience of working with significant complex delivery pipelines and/or across regulatory programmes. Adaptable and comfortable with working with ambiguity. Self-starting, self-organising and able to adapt to multiple roles within the product lifecycle. Enthusiastic, dependable and responsible.
