Summary: VARITE is seeking a Test and Validation Engineer for a 12-month fixed-term role based in Coventry, UK. The position involves developing and implementing test plans for passenger vehicle engines, conducting various performance tests, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with global standards. The role requires significant experience in data analytics and Python scripting, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement detailed test plans and procedures specifically for passenger vehicle engines.
- Conduct engine performance, load, durability, reliability, and environmental tests to verify compliance with requirements.
- Set up test fixtures, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems for static and dynamic testing.
- Ensure timely completion of tests according to the Design Verification Plan (DVP) or validation schedules.
- Experience in data analytics with significant experience in Python scripting; MATLAB and Concerto knowledge is advised but not mandatory.
- Convert existing Excel DVP into Wrike to reduce workload and better inform customer teams.
- Generate test timelines, automated reporting, and request forms, and track engine history and workload.
- Automate current engine test data processing to improve data quality and consistency.
- Collect, process, and analyze engine test data to evaluate performance, emissions, fuel efficiency, and reliability.
- Identify trends, anomalies, or deviations from specifications and provide corrective feedback.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, validation records, and documentation for regulatory review.
- Perform root cause analysis of engine failures and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ensure all engine tests meet global safety, performance, and emission standards.
- Implement automated testing procedures using scripts (Python, CAPL) to improve efficiency.
- Coordinate with project managers and test teams for seamless integration of engine validation.
- Participate in design reviews and provide expert recommendations for engine optimization.
- Support field evaluation of prototype engines and vehicles under real-world conditions.
- Ensure robust timing plans are in place to achieve program milestones and targets.
- Excellent communication skills to aid understanding of customer requirements.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Significant experience in data analytics and Python scripting.
- Knowledge of engine dynamics, thermodynamics, fuel systems, and emissions.
- Proficiency with test instrumentation, strain gauges, accelerometers, and data acquisition systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Familiarity with DVP procedures, FMEA, and ISO/automotive quality standards.
- Flexibility to work at different client sites as per programme requirements.
