Summary: The Test and Validation Engineer role in Coventry involves developing and implementing test plans for passenger vehicle engines, conducting various performance tests, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement detailed test plans and procedures for passenger vehicle engines.
  • Conduct engine performance, load, durability, reliability, and environmental tests.
  • Set up test fixtures, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems for testing.
  • Ensure timely completion of tests according to the Design Verification Plan (DVP).
  • Experience in data analytics and significant experience in Python scripting.
  • Convert existing Excel DVP into Wrike to reduce workload and inform customer teams.
  • Generate test timelines, automated reporting, and request forms.
  • Automate current engine test data processing to improve data quality and consistency.
  • Collect, process, and analyze engine test data for performance evaluation.
  • Identify trends and provide corrective feedback on engine specifications.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for regulatory review.
  • Perform root cause analysis of engine failures and anomalies.
  • Collaborate with design, R&D, quality, and production teams.
  • Ensure tests meet global safety, performance, and emission standards.
  • Implement automated testing procedures using scripts where applicable.
  • Coordinate with project managers and test teams for seamless integration.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide recommendations for optimization.
  • Support field evaluation of prototype engines under real-world conditions.
  • Ensure robust timing plans are in place to achieve program milestones.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Essential:

  • Develop and implement detailed test plans and procedures specifically for passenger vehicle engines.
  • Knowledge of power unit testing practises.
  • Conduct engine performance, load, durability, reliability, and environmental tests to verify and sign compliance with requirements.
  • Set up test fixtures, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems for both static and dynamic testing, including stress, strain, durability and vibration analysis.
  • Ensure timely completion of tests according to the Design Verification Plan (DVP) or validation schedules.
  • Experience of data analytics with Significant experience of python scripting is a necessity, with use MATLAB and concerto or similar advised but not mandatory, alongside excellent IT skill.
  • Ability to convert existing excel DVP into Wrike, with the goal of reduce workload overall and better inform customer teams.
  • Should be able to take program inputs and generate test timelines, automated reporting and request forms, full engine history and workload tracking to name a few.
  • Work needs to be achieved while integrating with the existing Wrike infrastructure and will have integration into various other business tools.
  • Automation of current engine test data processing with the goal of reduce workload overall and improving data quality and consistency.
  • In the short term the focus on the durability testing conducted by the team, supporting with the creation of tools to allow trend and daily check data to be validated and then reviewed efficiently using a combination of tool sets including Concerto and Python scripting to enable this configurable data analysis.
  • Collect, process, and analyze engine test data to evaluate performance, emissions, fuel efficiency, and reliability
  • Identify trends, anomalies, or deviations from specifications and provide corrective or design feedback
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, validation records, and documentation for regulatory, homologation, and internal review purposes
  • Perform root cause analysis of engine failures, breakdowns, or emission anomalies.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams including design, R&D, quality, and production to resolve engine-related issues and recommend design improvements
  • Ensure all engine tests meet global safety, performance, and emission standards (IS, ECE, or regional regulations)
  • Assist in literature review of homologation criteria and incorporate regulatory requirements into testing protocols.
  • Use diagnostic tools, engine simulators, MATLAB, SCADA, and data analysis platforms for test execution and evaluation
  • Implement automated testing procedures using scripts (Python, CAPL) where applicable to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with project managers, product engineers, and test teams to ensure seamless integration of engine validation into overall vehicle development.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and provide expert recommendations for engine optimization and validation strategies.
  • Support field evaluation of prototype engines and vehicles under real-world conditions.
  • Provide feedback on assembly issues, potential failures, and performance variations observed during prototype testing
  • Knowledge of engine dynamics, thermodynamics, fuel systems, and emissions.
