Summary: The Temporary Immigration Support Specialist will join the Human Resources team for a 12-month period, focusing on managing employment-based immigration processes for legal and professional staff. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance and providing support to foreign national employees throughout their visa and permanent residency journeys. The position requires strong organizational skills and a solid understanding of immigration laws and procedures. Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the main HR contact for all immigration-related matters involving visa sponsorship (H-1B, TN, L-1, O-1, etc.) and permanent residency (PERM, I-140, I-485) for attorneys and staff.
- Coordinate with external immigration counsel to support timely and accurate petition filings, extensions, and status adjustments.
- Monitor and manage critical immigration timelines, including visa expirations, work authorization renewals, and green card processing stages.
- Collaborate with HR Business Partners to provide guidance on immigration considerations during recruitment, onboarding, and internal transfers.
- Maintain up-to-date and confidential immigration documentation in accordance with legal and organizational standards.
- Draft internal support letters, employment verifications, and other immigration-related documents.
- Educate employees on immigration procedures, timelines, and required documentation.
- Stay informed on changes in immigration laws and regulations, and communicate relevant updates to HR leadership.
- Partner with Payroll and Benefits teams to ensure I-9 compliance and employment eligibility verification.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in HR, legal, paralegal, or immigration services-preferably in a law firm or professional services setting.
- Solid understanding of employment-based immigration processes (e.g., H-1B, TN, PERM).
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms; experience with immigration tracking systems is a plus.
- Experience working with external immigration counsel.
- Familiarity with I-9 compliance procedures.
- Prior experience supporting international hires in a corporate or legal HR environment.
