Summary: The Telecom Device Testing Engineer role involves validating and ensuring the quality, performance, and compliance of telecom devices across various network technologies. The position requires hands-on experience in device testing, network protocols, and telecom standards, along with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. The role is based in Ipswich, UK, and operates in a hybrid working arrangement. The contract duration is between 6 to 12 months and is classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform functional, regression, interoperability, and performance testing of telecom devices.
- Validate device behavior across 2G / 3G / 4G / LTE / 5G network environments.
- Execute testing on CPEs, routers, switches, modems, handsets, IoT devices, and other telecom equipment.
- Conduct protocol testing for interfaces such as SIP, Diameter, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, SNMP, and FTP.
- Perform SIM, call flow, data session, SMS, VoLTE, and network handover testing.
- Analyze logs and traces using tools like Wireshark, QXDM, Tems, or similar.
- Identify, log, track, and validate defects using defect management tools.
- Coordinate with development, network, and vendor teams to resolve issues.
- Ensure devices comply with telecom standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare test plans, test cases, execution reports, and defect metrics.
- Support certification and acceptance testing activities.
Key Skills:
- Strong knowledge of telecom fundamentals and network architecture.
- Hands on experience in telecom device testing.
- Understanding of wireless and wireline technologies (LTE, 5G, IMS, VoIP).
- Experience with device configuration and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with test equipment and tools (spectrum analyzers, call generators, protocol analyzers).
- Good understanding of SDLC/STLC and defect life cycle.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills.
