Summary: The Technical Project Manager will oversee the modernization and transition of a Legacy data platform, focusing on Azure Synapse Analytics and Power BI. This role involves coordinating data pipeline activities, managing BI delivery, and ensuring alignment among engineers, analysts, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise and project management skills in data analytics. The position requires in-office presence one day a week in central London.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the modernization and management of the current Azure Synapse-based data platform and associated Power BI assets.
- Drive project planning, task tracking, and delivery timelines across the data engineering and BI teams.
- Collaborate with data modelers and engineers to ensure high-quality data architecture and modelling practices.
- Act as a key liaison between business stakeholders, developers, and analysts to translate requirements into actionable technical plans.
- Coordinate the integration and eventual migration of workloads into Azure Databricks.
- Oversee the maintenance and optimization of data pipelines (ETL/ELT), ensuring data quality and performance.
- Manage the delivery and governance of Power BI reports and semantic layers.
- Monitor project risk, scope, and dependencies and proactively resolve roadblocks.
Key Skills:
- 5 years experience in technical project management in data platform or analytics projects.
- Strong working knowledge of Azure Synapse Analytics, Power BI, and data pipelines.
- Familiarity with Azure Databricks and data lake architecture.
- Background in data modelling and managing teams delivering dimensional or semantic models.
- Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools (eg, Jira, Azure DevOps).
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, both technical and non-technical.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional data teams (BI, engineering, architecture, analytics).
- Hands-on technical background in SQL or data engineering.
- Experience with dbt, Delta Lake, and data orchestration tools (eg, ADF, Airflow).
- Familiarity with Power BI governance, DAX, and dataset management.
- PMP, Scrum Master, or other relevant certifications.
