Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and execution of technical projects from feasibility to full-rate production, focusing on NPI, industrialisation, and technology integration.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across design, manufacturing engineering, quality, and supply chain for coherent project delivery.
  • Define project scope, schedules, risk registers, and resource plans using structured project management methodologies (e.g., APM, Prince2).
  • Act as the primary interface for engineering-led projects with internal stakeholders and external aerospace customers.
  • Ensure products are developed with consideration for manufacturability, cost, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the creation of manufacturing documentation including process flows, PFMEAs, control plans, and work instructions.
  • Apply APQP and PPAP methodologies to ensure products and processes are production-ready and fully validated.
  • Manage engineering change, configuration control, and versioning throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct technical reviews and design-for-manufacture (DFM) workshops to de-risk industrialisation activities.
  • Drive resolution of technical issues through root cause analysis, using 8D, DMAIC, or similar structured problem-solving tools.
  • Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and mitigation plans to senior stakeholders, customers, and project governance boards.
  • Ensure adherence to AS9100, customer-specific standards (e.g., Rolls-Royce SABRe, Airbus standards), and internal QMS procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across engineering and project delivery processes.

Key Skills:

  • Strong track record of leading engineering or industrial projects within the UK aerospace sector.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in an aerospace or high-spec industrial environment, ideally involving manufacturing engineering or industrialisation.
  • Degree or HND in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated understanding of aerospace industry quality standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP) and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and structured problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC).
  • Proficient in project planning tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and documentation control systems.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to articulate and listen to multi-level stakeholders.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and team leadership skills, capable of influencing across technical and non-technical functions.
  • Confident in interpreting aerospace engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Data-driven approach to decision-making, supported by knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and KPIs.
