Summary: The Technical Programme Manager - Data Centre Exit role involves leading a complex data centre migration and closure project for a market-leading retailer. The candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing the transition while ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. This position requires deep technical expertise in data centre infrastructure and project management, along with the ability to collaborate with various teams and stakeholders. The role demands a focus on compliance, risk management, and successful decommissioning of data centre assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data centre exit plan, including detailed migration strategies, timelines, and risk assessments
  • Collaborate closely with technical teams (Infrastructure, Applications, Security, etc.)
  • Lead the assessment and documentation of the existing data centre infrastructure, including Servers, storage, networking, and applications
  • Collaborate with procurement teams and multiple suppliers in the Partnerships Eco System
  • Manage the migration of applications and data to target environments (eg, decommission, new data centre)
  • Oversee the decommissioning and disposal of hardware and software assets, ensuring compliance with security and environmental regulations
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, vendors, and third-party service providers to ensure successful project execution
  • Develop and implement contingency plans to mitigate potential risks and issues
  • Manage project plans, schedules, and resources effectively
  • Provide regular status updates and reports to senior management
  • Ensure adherence to industry best practices and compliance standards
  • Lead the data destruction process to comply with all relevant regulations
  • Manage the physical closure of the data centre, including the removal of all infrastructure

Key Skills:

  • Proven and demonstrable experience of end to end large scale Data Centre Migrations
  • Understanding of data centre power, cooling, and environmental systems
  • Expertise in server, storage, networking, security, and virtualization technologies
  • Knowledge of data centre security and compliance standards (eg, ISO 27001, PCI DSS)
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and risk management
  • Ability to manage multiple project streams and priorities simultaneously
  • Experience with project management tools and methodologies (eg, Agile, Waterfall)
  • Define requirements and procure services for a Colocation (CoLo) Data Centre
  • Proven experience in planning and executing data centre migrations and closures
  • Knowledge of various migration methodologies (eg, lift-and-shift, re-platform, re-architect, CoLo, SaaS)
  • Expertise in hardware and software decommissioning and disposal
  • Experience in developing and implementing contingency plans
