Summary: The Technical Editor role at BMJ Group is a 12-month fixed-term contract focused on editing and preparing manuscripts for publication in both print and online formats for BMJ Medicine and The BMJ. The position requires close collaboration with authors and the editorial team to ensure the accuracy and quality of scientific content. The ideal candidate will have a background in science and experience in editing detailed scientific material, particularly for publications with a fast turnaround. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement based in London.
Key Responsibilities:
- Close editing of detailed scientific text to house style, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Formatting text using Kriya and eXtyles editing packages.
- Handling data-heavy illustrations and tables.
- Liaising with academic authors and the editorial team for smooth publication processes.
- Updating scheduling software (Publishing at Work and Kriyadocs).
- Overseeing articles from Word to XML format for online and print publication.
Key Skills:
- Science degree preferred (biomedical degree ideal) or significant experience in editing scientific material.
- Experience with at least one scientific publication with a weekly or daily online schedule.
- Familiarity with in-depth copyediting of research papers.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple editing tasks simultaneously.
- Fluency in Word and good organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Kriya and eXtyles editing packages and Scholar One program is advantageous.
