About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Documents Author/Service Architect to support the documentation of existing live services currently delivered on behalf of Army HQ.
Several established services, including Defence Gateway, are transitioning from Army HQ into MOD Digital & Data ownership. To support this transition and meet Secure by Design assurance requirements, these services require formal technical documentation using MOD templates, standards and terminology.
The successful candidate will work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and customer stakeholders to understand existing service architectures, technical configurations and operational processes, translating this information into clear and accurate documentation suitable for review by the Technical Design Office (TDO).
Active SC clearance is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce MOD-compliant High Level Design (HLD) documents for existing services.
- Produce supporting Low Level Design (LLD) documentation.
- Develop Business Process Guides and operational documentation.
- Conduct interviews and workshops with SMEs and customer stakeholders to capture existing service architectures and processes.
- Document existing technical configurations, service designs and operational processes.
- Ensure documentation accurately reflects existing service delivery and support models.
- Apply Secure by Design principles within documentation where appropriate.
- Support technical review, assurance and governance activities.
- Address comments and feedback from the Technical Design Office (TDO) and other stakeholders.
- Ensure documentation is clear, accurate, consistent and suitable for formal governance and assurance.
Essential Experience
- Demonstrable experience authoring MOD or wider UK Government technical documentation.
- Proven experience producing or contributing to HLDs, LLDs and Business Process Guides.
- Strong understanding of service architecture and technical design documentation.
- Ability to rapidly assimilate complex technical information from SMEs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills.
- Experience working within Defence governance and assurance frameworks.
Desirable Experience
- Understanding of Secure by Design principles and Defence assurance processes.
- Experience working within Defence Digital/MOD Digital & Data environments.
- Experience supporting service transition or onboarding activities.
- Experience documenting established/live services within complex government or enterprise environments.
