Summary: The Technical Author will be responsible for producing and amending high-quality technical documentation for a leading defence engineering organization. This role involves collaboration with engineering teams and requires expertise in SGML/XML formats, particularly S1000D compliance. The position offers a flexible hybrid working model and the opportunity for long-term contract extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce and amend technical documentation in SGML/XML formats (S1000D-compliant)
- Work across the full product lifecycle - from design to in-service support
- Collaborate with engineering teams (ILS, LSA, Commercial) to gather and translate complex technical data
- Apply Simplified Technical English (STE) and author in Data Module format
- Use tools like Arbortext Editor, FrameMaker, and CSDB systems
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in technical authorship within Defence, Aerospace, Automotive, or Heavy Industry
- Strong knowledge of MoD standards (ASD S1000D, AESP)
- Proficiency with SGML/XML editing tools and desktop publishing systems
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (Degree desirable)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects independently
