Summary: The Technical Author will play a crucial role in supporting documentation and knowledge management for a major cloud transformation program, focusing on cloud migration and AWS-native initiatives. This position requires the creation and maintenance of high-quality documentation in Confluence, ensuring it serves as the primary source for cloud processes and best practices. The role is hybrid, requiring at least one day per week onsite in Manchester. The contract is initially for three months, with a competitive hourly rate of up to £85.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain, and improve clear and consistent documentation in Confluence.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to capture and translate technical information.
  • Review existing content, identifying gaps and ensuring it supports both migration and AWS-native workstreams.
  • Define and apply taxonomy, metadata, and labelling strategies to enhance discoverability.
  • Manage and prioritise documentation tasks using Jira.
  • Contribute to documentation templates, structure, and long-term content strategy.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Author or Technical Writer in a cloud or technical environment.
  • Expertise using Confluence and Jira for content management.
  • Strong understanding of AWS and cloud-based architectures.
  • Experience supporting cloud migration and cloud-native development projects.
  • Knowledge of taxonomy design, metadata, and documentation governance.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Digital Skills is working with a leading UK organisation undertaking a major cloud transformation programme. We're seeking an experienced Technical Author to support documentation and knowledge management for both cloud migration and AWS-native initiatives.

Role Overview

The Technical Author will help define and deliver high-quality documentation that supports the organisation's move from on-premise systems to AWS, as well as new cloud-native services.
You'll ensure Confluence remains the single, well-structured source of truth for cloud processes, standards, and best practices.
