Summary: The Technical Architect role is a 6-month contract position focused on assisting a public sector client in migrating existing technologies to AWS services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in upgrading and migrating Red Hat infrastructure and will work closely with the in-house development team. This position requires expertise in cloud migration tools and strategies, as well as strong communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The role is classified as inside IR35 and is based in Edinburgh with a hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist infrastructure engineers and developers to ensure a seamless transition to Cloud.
  • Collaborate with the in-house development team on application migration to AWS.
  • Take ownership of the end-to-end process of delivering features within project parameters.
  • Document system design decisions and communicate complex architecture topics to stakeholders.
  • Provide expert knowledge on cloud migration tools and strategies.
  • Design systems, choose appropriate technology, and embed security controls.

Key Skills:

  • Experience with AWS Cloud, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS, OpenShift, and JBoss technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Angular JS, and Vue JS.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a small, agile team environment.
  • Experience in application refactoring for the cloud.
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL, Jenkins Automation Server, and Nexus Repository is desirable.
  • Experience in architecting cloud-native serverless technologies is a plus.

About the Role:

Harvey Nash's Pub Sec client is looking for a Technical Architect. They have an ambition to become a Cloud First organisation and are currently migrating existing technologies to AWS services.

They require an experienced Technical Architect with a successful track record in upgrading and migrating a Red Hat infrastructure to come in and work alongside our in-house development team to assist with our application migration to AWS. We are redeveloping and require expert knowledge on all aspects detailed below

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of engineering systems with a variety of technologies and patterns; designing systems, choosing appropriate technology, and embedding security controls.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively on initiatives to improve overall team performance, working as part of a small and agile team to meet service needs.
  • Experience of taking ownership of the end-to-end process of delivering a feature within agreed project parameters whilst also identifying and validating functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Experience in application refactoring for the cloud and using cloud migration tools and strategies.
  • Duties will include: Assisting infrastructure engineers and developers (front and Back End) to ensure seamless transition to Cloud and to advise on the correct path for emerging technologies.
  • Lead the communication of complicated, complex or risky architecture topics with technical and non-technical stakeholders by documenting system design decisions.
  • Candidate should be highly proficient in the following technologies:
  • AWS Cloud, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS, OpenShift, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, JBoss FUSE, Red Hat Single-Sign-On and Cloud Repositories.
  • Programming Languages: Java, JavaScript, Angular JS, Vue JS.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL (EnterpriseDB), Jenkins Automation Server and Nexus Repository.
  • Experience in architecting Cloud native serverless technologies.
