Technical Accounting Consultant

A leading global insurance services provider is seeking a highly experienced Technical Accounting Consultant to join their Group Finance team on an interim basis. This role offers the opportunity to work on a major restructuring programme involving the disposal of two sub-groups and subsequent ownership changes within the remaining group structure. You will play a pivotal part in producing auditor-ready technical accounting papers, analyses, journal entries, and financial statement disclosures in accordance with IFRS standards.

What you'll do:

As a Technical Accounting Consultant, you will immerse yourself in the intricacies of group restructuring within a global insurance services provider.

  • Prepare comprehensive technical accounting papers for two group disposals and other restructuring activities, including transaction overviews and detailed accounting assessments.
  • Assess the scope of transactions and apply relevant IFRS guidance to ensure accurate identification of disposal groups and determination of carrying values.
  • Analyse disposal proceeds and consideration received while evaluating the treatment of transaction costs associated with restructuring.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of cumulative translation reserves and other reserves requiring recycling as part of gain/loss calculations on disposals.
  • Evaluate consolidation impacts arising from disposals and provide clear judgement and estimation considerations for recommended accounting treatments.
  • Draft audit-ready technical accounting papers, disposal accounting calculations, supporting models, entity and consolidation journal packs for review by external auditors.
  • Produce IFRS-compliant draft financial statement disclosures covering disposal transactions, significant judgements, estimates, and other relevant notes.
  • Compile supporting documentation for auditor review and challenge to demonstrate technical rigour and professionalism throughout the process.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer by preparing handover documentation for the Group Finance team to ensure continuity post-project completion.
  • Qualified Accountant status (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) is essential for this role to ensure compliance with professional standards.
  • Extensive post-qualified experience in IFRS technical accounting within large multinational groups operating multiple legal entities and foreign currencies is required.
  • Proven track record in M&A/disposal accounting with demonstrable experience preparing technical accounting papers for audit review.
  • Deep understanding of complex group restructurings including deconsolidation accounting processes is vital.
  • Expertise in applying key IFRS standards such as IFRS 10 Consolidated Financial Statements, IFRS 5 Non-current Assets Held for Sale and Discontinued Operations, IFRS 7 Financial Instruments Disclosures, IFRS 9 Financial Instruments, IFRS 12 Disclosure of Interest in Other Entities, IAS 1 Presentation of Financial Statements, IAS 32 Financial Instruments, IAS 21 Foreign Currency Effects.
  • Ability to produce audit-ready documentation demonstrating technical rigour and professionalism suitable for review by external auditors.
