Summary: The Teacher of English role is a fixed-term summer position based in Sunderland, where the teacher will deliver engaging language-focused lessons to international learners. Responsibilities include lesson planning, teaching, and participating in academic meetings, while adhering to safeguarding policies. The position offers accommodation and meals, along with a supportive multicultural environment. The contract runs from July to August 2025, requiring a commitment of 42 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver language-focused and engaging lessons.
  • Teach 30 hours a week plus 12 hours of activities/excursions/pastoral duties.
  • Work 6 days a week (between Monday – Sunday).
  • Follow BSC syllabus and complete weekly planners, attendance sheets, and student reports.
  • Be observed and receive feedback.
  • Work as part of the academic team and support the summer team as a whole.
  • Attend and participate in academic meetings and INSETT sessions.
  • Assist with placement testing and attend induction held at the centre.
  • Comply with BSC Uniform Policy and Centre rules and regulations.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons.
  • Report any student absence and safeguarding issues.
  • Work positively as part of a team and demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • Attend and participate in all centre team meetings.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned by the Centre.

Key Skills:

  • CELTA/Trinity TESOL/B.Ed. in TEFL/TESOL/PGCE in languages with QTS.
  • Experience teaching ESL students, particularly young learners.
  • High level of computer literacy, particularly in MS Office and databases.
  • Excellent lesson planning skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility.
  • Ability to work well in a team and remain calm under pressure.
  • Enthusiasm for summer school life.
  • Right to work in the UK/EU.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance.
