Key Responsibilities:

  • Document and develop a strong understanding of the IT cost base, including key strategic drivers.

  • Perform a detailed review of the baseline architecture to identify consolidation and optimization opportunities.

Mentmore have exclusively partnered with a leading organisation based in London to recruit a forward thinking TCO/FinOps Specialist to play a pivotal role within Technology as they grow their businesses globally, through new services & products. At the centre of this transformation is a need to improve the firm's overhead to revenue ratio. As they have grown, they have a federated technology landscape which requires consolidation, simplification and modernisation not only to achieve a Total Cost of Ownership that is reflective of a firm of our size and complexity but to sustain that TCO as we transform the rest of the business. You will be responsible for understanding the firmwide IT cost base, identifying opportunities and levers to reduce and improve the TCO and develop a multi-year TCO strategy and plan that will significantly improve the TCO. You be responsible for developing a multi-year TCO strategy/plan that will deliver material non-FTE savings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Technology Portfolio Manager and Finance team, document and develop a strong understanding of the IT cost base including key strategic drivers.
  • Help improve the wider Technology functions' understanding of the cost base, key drivers and trends.
  • Share industry best practices and practical/workable suggestions and recommendations relating to TCO and FinOps
  • Perform a detailed review of the baseline architecture to assess where/how the technology stack can be consolidated, simplified, optimised and/or modernised to deliver savings. Also identify services for retirement/decommissioning.
  • In collaboration with the wider function, develop a technology sourcing strategy that strikes the right balance between quality/scalability of resources and cost. Also complete a review of licences to identify opportunities for optimisation.
  • Complete a review of all outsourced activity/delivery models including Cyber to identify opportunities to improve services and costs.
  • Develop a multi-year TCO strategy that informs the technology roadmap and delivers/tracks wider savings through the delivery of transformation activities. This includes the increased use of cloud/platform native capabilities.
  • Stay close to, monitor and make necessary interventions across change/transformation activities that either present an opportunity to improve TCO or significantly increase the cost base.
  • Monitor and regularly report on TCO objectives and the progress being made.
  • Oversee and manage the Tech budget and corresponding Tech finance processes, including invoice management and purchase order management; actuals tracking and reporting; and management of the fixed asset register. This will require working closely with stakeholder Finance teams as well as Tech leadership and Product Owners.

Skills/Experience

  • 10+ years' experience working in Technology with a strong commercial background.
  • Experience managing federated IT budgets and driving initiatives to significantly reduce IT costs.
  • Experience developing a TCO strategy and business case for investment.
  • Proven track record of improving Total Cost of Ownership & Total Cost of Change through sourcing, asset management, technology/architecture optimisation, modernisation and other levers.
  • Strong story telling capabilities to be able to take the organisation on a journey where simplification and the decommissioning of products and services may impact end-users.
  • Be able to discuss technology with senior businesspeople in their language (i.e. sell the TCO strategy) and discuss business priorities with technologists in their language (i.e. communicate the importance of TCO in delivering wider objectives i.e. reinvestment in tech).
  • The ability to influence and collaborate with individuals across Technology, Finance, Procurement and Transformation who don’t report to you but form part of a wider team that will need to work together to deliver the TCO strategy/plan.
  • The impact, gravitas and confidence to say "no" to things to stop the further proliferation of technology and ensure we are working on the things that have the largest strategic impact and improve/sustain TCO.
