Overview of Role You will be able to apply commercial and practical thinking to the development and implementation of solutions, demonstrating an understanding of the business operation and requirements when formulating solutions and recommendations thus providing constructive challenge to deliver the right outcomes. You will use your knowledge, skills, and experience to influence the direction of System Safety Assurance within the project. You will provide the driving force and experience in the development of the mitigations to ensure delivery of system safety across the infringement works. As part of this, you will be working as part of a dedicated system safety team and with designers. The candidate will make authoritative technical recommendations that may have a high impact on operational performance in both the short and longer term. They must be able to clearly persuade and communicate solutions to stakeholders at all levels. We are particularly interested in people who can draw on their experience and expertise to provide advice and oversight to other members of the team, and to develop the capability of the team and of individual team members.

Knowledge and Experience - Has a thorough understanding of how to conduct simple and complex safety risk assessments across a wide variety of railway scenarios using a variety of suitable analysis techniques. - Able to evaluate specific project and cumulative effect of system changes. - Able to set and implement appropriate strategy for system safety assurance. - Clear understanding of Safety Legislation and how it relates to the metro sector. - Understand and utilise the knowledge and experience from within the system safety team and other stakeholder teams. - In depth understanding and application of CENELEC (EN50126 / 9 and 50716) and national and international safety standards. - Thorough understanding of applicable legislation, in particular ROGS. - Thorough knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within the rail environment. - Experience of making interventions where necessary to control system safety risk. - Thorough understanding of the risk topography of railway systems. - Experience of working with Regulators on complex issues. - Delivery of Safety Assurance and Safety Cases on simple to complex railway projects.
