Summary: The role of Principal Systems Safety Engineer involves supporting high-profile railway projects in the North of the UK through the development of safety engineering and assurance plans. This hybrid position requires collaboration with stakeholders and the management of safety processes, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The contract is initially for 6-12 months and operates outside IR35. The role is based in Leeds, requiring 2-3 days of on-site work each week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Development of System Engineering and Assurance plans and processes
- Support safety and assurance management for projects (i.e. CSM-REA, EN50126,8&9)
- Develop and manage project safety process - development of System Safety Plan, System Definition, management of Hazard Records
- Engage and support clients with authorisation bodies and independent assessments
- Prepare and develop safety requirements/specifications
- Support the development of Engineering Safety Cases / Safety Justification
- Develop Project Authorisation Strategies and support projects with the delivery of the applicable Rail Interoperability Regulations
- Develop scope of works and work packages with clients
- Participate in multi-disciplinary review of project deliverables
- Serve as the systems safety resource for the Principal and Associate in projects
Key Skills:
- Engineering degree or equivalent
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Railway systems and assurance experience including system safety and interoperability

Matchtech are working with a key client in the UK to support the recruitment of a Principal Systems Safety Engineer to work on high profile railway projects in the North of the UK. These roles are contract positions, operating outside IR35 for 6-12 months initially. The position is a hybrid role requiring 2-3 days a week in Leeds.
Here’s what you’ll do
- Development of System Engineering and Assurance plans and processes
