Summary: The role of Sustainability Consultant / Environmental Engineer involves supporting environmental management and sustainability initiatives within a globally renowned aerospace company. The position requires ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and standards while identifying and mitigating environmental risks throughout the product lifecycle. The role is hybrid and offers a competitive hourly rate based on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and delivery of environmental management strategies across defence programmes.
  • Producing environmental documentation such as management plans, standards registers, environmental case reports and hazardous materials reports.
  • Monitoring environmental objectives and targets, contributing to sustainability initiatives, and ensuring environmental considerations are embedded within design, development, use and disposal phases.
  • Collaboration with internal teams, customers and suppliers to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
  • Support environmental audits, reviewing supplier deliverables, addressing audit findings and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of environmental design practices and provide support to system safety engineering activities.

Key Skills:

  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a recognised environmental professional body such as the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals.
  • Experience of environmental engineering or environmental management, ideally within aviation, defence or other regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and standards, for example, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard, UK REACH Regulation, Defence Standard 00-051.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
