Summary: The role of Surveyor involves joining the Estates Team as a General Practice Chartered Surveyor, focusing on the management and development of the Council's Commercial Property Portfolio. The role is office-based with a minimum of two days per week and is interim until March 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide valuation, estates management, and surveying advice across all departments.
  • Support negotiation processes for the acquisition and disposal of land and property assets.
  • Assist in conducting statutory valuations, subject to sign off by an MRICS and Registered Status Valuer.
  • Produce and contribute to reports for Council representatives and clients.
  • Liaise with other Departments/Sections regarding valuation and surveying work.
  • Address enquiries from all departments about valuation and estate management.
  • Provide support to the Estates Manager and Principal Estates Surveyor.
  • Contribute to the delivery of land and premises reviews to support Council priorities.

Key Skills:

  • NQF Level 6 qualification or equivalent level of knowledge through extensive work experience.
  • Ideally MRICS qualified.
  • Strong background in acquisitions, disposals, general estate management, and valuation work.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within a team.

Surveyor Location: Office-based (minimum 2 days per week) Job Type: Interim (until 31st March 2026) Salary: 350 per day We are seeking a General Practice Chartered Surveyor to join our Estates Team, a forward-thinking group of professionals dedicated to developing our Commercial Property Portfolio and maximising the capital and income generation opportunities of Council assets. This role requires a creative approach to asset management and offers a dynamic work environment. Day-to-day of the role: Provide valuation, estates management, and surveying advice across all departments, promoting the corporate use of property assets. Support the negotiation processes for the acquisition and disposal of various land and property assets and interests. Assist in conducting statutory valuations, subject to sign off and approval by an MRICS and Registered Status Valuer, to support the Council’s accountancy functions. Produce and contribute to reports for Council representatives and clients, acting as the Council's property representative. Liaise with other Departments/Sections in all aspects of valuation, estates management, and surveying work. Address enquiries from all departments regarding valuation, estate management, and surveying work. Provide full support to the Estates Manager and Principal Estates Surveyor, including attending meetings. Contribute to the delivery of a programme of land and premises reviews to support the Council’s priorities. Required Skills & Qualifications: NQF Level 6 qualification (e.g., Bachelor Degrees, Graduate Certificates and Diplomas) or NQF Level 5 qualification (e.g., Diplomas of HE and FE, foundation degrees, and HNDs) with relevant work experience. Alternatively, equivalent level of knowledge gained through extensive work experience. Ideally MRICS qualified. Strong background in acquisitions, disposals, general estate management (rent review/lease renewals), Community Buildings review, and valuation work. Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
